SWIRLabs supports the critical transition from design to reality through hands-on prototyping and detailed performance characterization of advanced imaging sensors and systems. Our work focuses on turning architectures and IP into measurable, validated hardware—while identifying risks and optimization opportunities early.

We approach prototyping as a learning and validation process, not just fabrication. Each prototype is designed to answer specific performance questions and de-risk downstream development.

Prototyping

We develop functional prototypes across sensor and subsystem levels, including:

  • Custom pixel and ROIC-based prototypes
  • SPAD, CMOS, and hybrid sensor demonstrators
  • Evaluation boards and test-ready configurations
  • Architecture-specific test structures

Prototypes are scoped to balance speed, cost, and information yield—ensuring rapid insight without unnecessary complexity.

Characterization & Validation

We perform structured characterization to quantify real-world performance, including:

  • Sensitivity, noise, and dynamic range
  • Timing precision and event response
  • Power consumption and thermal behavior
  • Uniformity, yield indicators, and defect analysis
  • System-level throughput and bottlenecks

Measurements are tied directly to architectural intent, allowing results to feed back into design refinement or feasibility decisions.
